Mystery Grab Bag Focus
Add excitement and a sense of anticipation to your family ministry. No one knows who will be asked to choose an activity or what it will be. Use this strategy to encourage families to try intentional faith-growing at home. Materials
• Photocopied activities
• Plastic garbage bags or grocery sacks Mystery Grab Bag Activity
#1 Here's how it works. Following the directions below, place crumbled-up pre-selected activities in a plastic garbage bag. While walking around church, ask family members to choose activities from the mystery grab bag. Before the selection is made, ask for a commitment to do the activity. #2 It's easiest to select activities found in the Pick a Pak section in the upper left-hand corner of your ReadyClickGrow Your Family home page accessed from your church Web site. #3 Print four to six activities. These are now your activity choices. Photocopy as many of these as you wish to give to parents before and after any church activity. You may want to use a computer to cut and paste your chosen activities onto your church letterhead. Remember:you have our permission to cut and paste our copyrighted material onto printed materials for your local church use. Just be sure to add your church Web site address to the activity sheet along with instructions as to how to access all the ReadyClickGrow Your Family materials on your church's Web site.
#4 Create several mystery grab bags filled with folded or crumpled activities.
#5 Give each bag to family ministry team members, young people, pastoral staff members, or volunteer parents who are already using ReadyClickGrow activities. Ask them to walk around before or after church functions, asking parents to reach into the bags and pull out a take-home activity. #6 If parents grab an activity they don't think they'll like, ask them to choose again. #7 Encourage parents to place the activity on their refrigerator as a reminder to do it during the upcoming week. |
